Saria is pronounced SAH REE AH, according to the Japanese katakana spelling (katakana: sa-ri-a:)

The name Saria could be derivative of a few different words or names:

The first is aria, which is a solo vocal piece, with instrument accompanied. This could describe her song, Saria's Song. Although Saria doesn't sing, she does use the ocarina to play her music solo. Symbolically, this definition could represent the very fact that Saria plays her music alone, rather than with others.

The second is maria, which, among other things, is a type of tree which is apparently quite valuable. This definition could be symbolic of Saria being both the Sage of the Forest (tree) and the most important (valuable) Kokiri because of her status.

The third is Sariah, the name of Lehi's wife in the Book of Mormon. When two of Sariah's sons stray from their prophetic brother Nephi and the rest of the family, Sariah remains faithful. This coincides with our Saria constantly standing by Link's side, even when he's accused of killing the Kokiri's guardian, the Great Deku Tree.

Saria appears to be named after the third town that Link encounters in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Strangely, the town's main feature is that it's seperated by a river and is surrounded on one side by mountains; there seems to be nothing about the town that has to do with the forest, aside from the fact that everything in the town (minus the sky and water) is green-tinted. Personally I think a more appropriate name for the town would be either "Ruto" or "Darunia", which are also used in the game as names of towns.
