The Forest Temple is the citadel of protection of the area, and is also the home of the Forest Sage. It's an ancient, castle-like complex that was quite rundown even before Ganon's monsters infested it. However, this seems only to give the Temple a deeper impression of being connected with the forest it protects.

The Forest Temple has a few main sections: the main hall, which gives access to most parts of the Temple; the two outside gardens, connected by a short sewer system and featuring small, moat-surrounded islands holding a stone gazebo; an elevator connecting the bottom and top floors; and a circular gallery, where Link fights and defeats Ganon's Phantom.

Perhaps the neatest feature of the Forest Temple is the corkscrew corridors that seem to twist themselves to create the semblance of a straight path. They are also capable of being straightened, if one shoots an arrow into the eye keyhole outside of the corridor.

The main enemies featured in the Forest Temple are the Poe Sisters (Joelle, Beth, Amy and Meg), and Phantom Ganon, a ghost modeled after the real Ganon.

After the evil corrupting the Forest Temple is dispelled by Saria and Link, the Temple becomes home to the Forest Sage. Although Saria is adverse to becoming a Sage and staying at the temple at first, she decides it would be the best way to help Link.
